Prints accepted into Minnesota Traveling Loan Collection

Two prints by Monticello, Big Lake and Becker area photographer Chris Lommel have been accepted into the Minnesota Professional Photographers Association traveling loan collection. "Kick Back" was made during STMA soccer player Emmy Johnson's senior portrait session in Lommel's studio. "Morning Dew" shows vivid detail of dew drops on a pink peony in their outdoor portrait park.

Big Lake family portrait on KARE 11's "Showcase Minnesota"

The Minor family of Big Lake was featured among professional portraits from around Minnesota on KARE 11's "Showcase Minnesota" last month. Twin Cities area photographer David Grupa served as spokesperson for the Minnesota Professional Photographers Association in a television studio interview with Rob Hudson.

All Aboard! Full Northstar train makes inaugural run to Minneapolis

The first Northstar Commuter Rail train to pick up passengers arrived Saturday at the Big Lake station. Chris Lommel has an eye on the community

Local photographer Chris Lommel is a small-town type of guy. He's lived and worked in Monticello or the surrounding area all his life, and he has taken part in the community on many different levels, from a student in the school district to a Monticello Times employee, a business owner and church volunteer.

"Growing up and working in a small town, there are so many connections, so many stories, that you've shared with people," Lommel said. "I just can't imagine living any other way."

Local Photographer Earns Degree

Chris Lommel has earned the Master of Photography degree from the Professional Photographers of America. The degree was presented to the Monticello-Big Lake area photographer by PPA President Jack Reznicki at the association's annual convention, Imaging USA, held earlier this month in Tampa, Florida.

The awards ceremony had an added special event for Lommel when his first portrait photography class instructor, Frank Cricchio, was honored with PPA's Lifetime Achievement Award.
